Decision on Senate House Library’s future

Senate House LibraryA statement on the future of Senate House Library will be released by the central University of London on Wednesday December 17th.

SHL faces a funding crisis after the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) decided not to renew its £1.1m special research library grant earlier this year. It already makes yearly losses of over £1m.

A review group has been considering a range of options, including closing the library completely or a takeover from an individual college, with UCL the frontrunner.

The review group’s final report was presented to UL’s collegiate council on Friday (December 12th) and it is their decision that is expected later this week.
