Swine flu hits SOAS
A case of swine flu has been confirmed in an SOAS student living in a hall of residence.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has advised that the risk of it spreading to other people is very low and the School buildings remain open.
Students and staff have been reminded of the HPA’s standard advice on ways to minimise the risk of transmission.
SOAS said it would breach confidentiality to name the student or identify which hall of residence was affected.
A spokesperson said: “The School, the management of the student accommodation and the affected student have co-operated fully with the Health Protection Agency and all their advice has been followed.
“Staff and students who had direct contact with this student have been informed separately and followed up by the HPA.”
It is not known if the student contracted the virus while abroad or in this country. They are said to be recovering well.
